Yup, the guys who made the Puchisoft Dispatcher video-walkthrough also made one for GetIt: http://www.downloadtube.com/GetIt-demo- ... ndows.html
Looking at this, I really feel that GetIt could be much better, especially in the GUI department. I've been thinking about giving it a major overhaul, but I just haven't had the time, nor the donations.
But then again, using a "Manager"-style GUI defeats the point, IMHO. Look at the AppUpdater GUI. It's very nice, and it works most of the time. But I never use it. Why is that?
A) It takes a long time to fire up the AppUpdater GUI and then select Available Installs, and then do a search. It is barely less work then Alt-Tabbing to my browser (or in most cases, staying in my browser), do a Feeling Lucky Address Bar Google search of the program I want, download it, and Next click it 3-4 times. Sure, it's a little faster, but not that much, and there's also:
B) Some programs I want aren't Installable with AppUpdater (nor AppSnap). Using a Manager GUI might be a little faster, but if it turns out that it doesn't have what I wanted, then I just wasted time.
What does make sense is this: Adding the Installers to the Windows Vista/7 Start Menu Search.
Imagine I wanted to run Filezilla. I press Windows, and type in Filezilla. It won't find the actual program... but it will find the link to instantly install Filezilla. Done! No GUI required.
This is basically what I did with FindAndRunRobot, but there I required the user to enter "install Filezilla". Here just typing Filezilla would be enough, but it might not be the first result to install it... but probably.
You can achieve this on WIndows7 right now by copying the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Puchisoft\GetIt\Installs" into either your Documents or your Downloads folder (or rather, a sub-folder, for neatness). I will probably automate this behavior by default in the next release.
